Here’s another analogy, which describes the wingnut approach to the recession.

Imagine your neighbour’s house is on fire. You throw a bucket of water on the fire, notice that it hisses and smokes a bit, but the fire recovers.

Having thus proven that water doesn’t put out fires, you instead start throwing kerosene.

You notice that after you throw the kerosene, the fire appears to grow. But, since your neighbour is an alcoholic, you decide that the fire is entirely his fault, and, since your theory predicts that kerosene will put the fire out if you throw enough of it, you keep throwing kerosene until the place burns to the ground. Then you spit on your neighbour and tell him this wouldn’t have happened if he weren’t a lazy, drunken layabout in the first place.
