Don’t Know Much About History (but if you hum a few bars...)

Don’t Know Much About History - NYTimes.com: "Bachmann is not a zealous fact-checker, as we learned when she claimed the president’s trip to India would cost the taxpayers $200 million a day, based on an Indian newspaper report quoting an unnamed provincial official. In the real world, many founders, like Thomas Jefferson, expressed reservations about slavery but still kept hundreds of slaves, who were the basis of their personal wealth. Others, like John Adams, never owned slaves and opposed the institution but compromised on the matter of all men actually being created equal in order to bring the southern states into the union. And not a single one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence envisioned in any way, shape or form a democracy in which people of Michele Bachmann’s gender would sit in the halls of Congress." (emphasis mine)

Worth a read. Making things up? Michele's speciality. Let's watch the Minnesota Mess and the Disasta From Alaska in a race to the bottom.

No Trader Joe's for us this year

Shoot. Like the memory of a Tasty Cake to an Easterner, nothing makes me long for West Hollywood like Trader Joe's.

No Trader Joe's for us this year, Church's maybe, Blue Bell yes Trader Joe's, Blue Bell, Sweet Tomatoes - Colorado Springs Gazette, CO

I'd have to drive 40 minutes to the Springs to get some Two Buck Chuck. Maybe 2013?

Sarah Palin Battle Hymn

"And when Sarah Palin gets to Washington, it will be cold as hell" doesn't mean what you think it does...

High-Speed Rail in America

The Republicons are planning on walking back plans for high-speed rail in the U.S., - you know, a project that would benefit We the People and provide for the common good but might interfere with their no-taxes-for the-Super-Rich agenda - but I am still hopeful it will come to pass. The ability to work in Denver while living on the Prairie without a 105-minute commute including a mountain pass treacherous in winter ("winter" on Monument being any month but August) makes my feet do a little happy dance.

I know - it's just a pipe dream right now, if it ever comes to pass it will be just in time for me to board the train for the funerals of friends that will occurring weekly in 20 years - but think of the growth! P-towners could work, shop, eat, play easily in a Real City With Real Stuff. Ok, most Pwello natives will still not venture any farther north than Fountain, but Denverites could zip down for a taste of....um, the biggest pitstop on the Prairie before Taos, N.M. And tumbleweeds.

High-Speed Rail in America - America 2050: "The 56-page study, entitled, 'High-Speed Rail in America,' cites ridership potential as the number one factor in determining if a corridor is suitable for investment, identifies the specific conditions that generate ridership demand, and scores each corridor according to strength in those areas. The top performing corridors in each region determined to have the greatest potential demand for high-speed rail ridership include corridors such as: New York-Washington, DC; Chicago-Milwaukee; Los Angeles-San Diego; Tampa (via Orlando) to Miami; Dallas-Houston; Atlanta-Birmingham; Portland-Seattle; and Denver-Pueblo."
Oh please, oh please....

Stay Classy, Boner

Meanwhile, your Orange Overlord clutched his box of tissues and ditched the memorial service to down a couple dozen Rob Roys at a Republican fundraiser for poor, rich old, Repub white guys. *sniff*. Fighting for the 'Murican People is hard work!

A New Low

A New Low: Hoft Falsely Claims Obama "Fibbed" About Giffords "Opening Her Eyes For The First Time" Media Matters for America: "This morning, showing his steadfast commitment to smearing the president based on flimsy or manufactured 'evidence,' Hoft announced that it 'Looks Like Obama Fibbed About Giffords 'Opening Her Eyes for the First Time' in his speech last night. Hoft wrote that it was a 'very emotional moment' but 'unfortunately it was not true.' His evidence?" (more...)

Not the first time thistool has been caught posting outright lies. He objected when Media Matters took screen shots of some of his fabrications, the big meanies....

"But only a crazy person would take me seriously..."

http://twitter.com/#!/sarahpalinusa/status/10935548053

Sarah Palin's FB page has been quickly scrubbed clean of the posting with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in the cross hairs of a rifle.

The wingnuts will spin this as "he was really a Liberal!", "an isolated incident", "both sides do it" (they don't), "he was a Liberal plant to make us look bad" and the ever popular "George Soros!!!!1!".

Reason #456 why I am no longer a Republican. Not because crazy people are crazy, but the denial that the crazy Teabaggers rhetoric helped push this along. Rep. Giffords office was vandalized after she voted for the Health Care Insurance Reform. A vote to protect you from being denied coverage for a pre-existing condition. A vote to keep your kids covered until they can get it on their own. A vote to protect your best interests, oh gentle middle class member.

And no, I don't want to take your guns away. And I'm not giving mine up, either. For once, stop the spin and admit that violent speech against political figures helped get us here.

Just own it, for once.

And in Other News...

The Pueblo Chiefly reports that someone was hit by a car as they ran across the road in all black at midnight. Alcohol may have been involved. News on the Prairie, otherwise known as 'Friday Night'.

On to Caturday:

The Butt Series

The Conservative Constitution of the United States

In true form, Your Orange Overlord wept through the reading of an edited version of the Constitution, two members missed the swearing in as they were busy at fundraisers, and that promise to cut $100,000 million from the Federal budget? They didn't think you thought they were serious. And thanks for your vote.

The Conservative Constitution of the United States: "We, the Real Americans, in order to form a more God-Fearing Union, establish Justice as we see it, Defeat Health-Care Reform, and Preserve and Protect our Property, our Guns and our Right Not to Pay Taxes, do ordain and establish this Conservative Constitution for the United States of Real America.
Article I. Congress shall have only the powers literally, specifically and expressly granted herein, and no others. That means definitely, without question, absolutely, no regulation of the Health Insurance or Financial Services industries."

Census: Number of poor may be millions higher

Census: Number of poor may be millions higher - Yahoo! News: "WASHINGTON – The number of poor people in the U.S. is millions higher than previously known, with 1 in 6 Americans — many of them 65 and older — struggling in poverty due to rising medical care and other costs, according to preliminary census figures released Wednesday.
At the same time, government aid programs such as tax credits and food stamps kept many people out of poverty, helping to ensure the poverty rate did not balloon even higher during the recession in 2009, President Barack Obama's first year in office."
